iStudiez Pro major update coming!

As many of you start to ask when is the update and what features you should expect, we decided it is time to share the news. So here is what we prepared for the nearest update to make you love the app even more:

iPhone/iPad/Mac:

  • you will finally be able to add grades to your exams
  • option to add partners to assignments is enabled again
  • added possibility to assign multiple instructors to classes
  • added option to assign instructors to exams
  • GPA scale for percents added
  • we added possibility to assign negative values for your grades (for our users in some European countries and Scandinavia)
  • maximum repeat period for a class is extended to 20 days, hopefully this will satisfy those of you who have weird schedules 🙂
  • cancelled classes will now sync normally
  • previously cancelled classes can be restored or optionally keep cancelled when you make any changes to the course schedule
  • BONUS: new icon added to choose from class type icons, also all passed exams will be marked with a cute icon showing the grade received.

iPhone/iPad only:

  • minimum required specification is extended for iOS 4.1
  • you will now be able to set the due date for assignments for the next class
  • we also added separate settings for exam notifications, for your convenience

iPad only:

  • you can now add iCal events from iStudiez Pro
  • we thought it would be more handy to add events from Overview, so  we added “+” button right there

Mac only:

  • quick look for class details and notes implemented (available if  you double click a class or press spacebar when the class is selected)
  • you will also be able to navigate week view using your keyboard
  • in Assignments view double click to add assignment

Also, thanks to your comments and reports the following bugs are now fixed:

  • notes to classes will no more be lost when changing any schedule details for particular course/class
  • settings sync fixed
  • overall performance improved
  • problem causing occasional events not to show in Calendar (Mac version)
  • occasional switch from letter grades to percent grades causing overall grade to be calculated incorrectly (Mac version)
  • hitting and viewing overlapping events in Week view (Mac version)
  • occasional crashes (Mac version)

Wow, that appeared to be the long list!
Right now we are finalizing some of the above listed features, proceed to overall testing on all devices and then will be ready to submit to the App Store.

UPDATE: iStudiez Pro version 1.5.2 (iOS) and version 1.0.2 (Mac OS) submitted for approval.
If you own both iOS and Mac versions of iStudiez Pro, remember to update both versions before syncing.

    Have you fixed the bug yet whereby you can switch week A and B?

    For example, I have 5 weeks of A/B/A/B/A – then a week’s holiday – when I come back to school I’m on Week B. But iStudiez counts the holiday period as being a week in itself, so starts on the wrong week.

    It seems there’s no way to fix this and I emailed you guys about it MONTHS ago. You said you were working on it but nothing 🙁

    I wouldn’t normally complain about things like this publicly on a blog but I have paid good money for the iPhone, iPad, AND Mac versions, so I have parted quite a bit of cash for iStudiez. It’s great until any 1-week holiday happens after which point its virtually useless.

  • If you need some beta-testers I would really like to help. I have iOS5 and am unable to use my favourite App at the moment because of the known bugs. (So sad, but Reminders even beware me of falling into despair)

    Hello,
    I use this app on my phone and on my mac… It is great!!! But I have a problem on my mac. Since 2 months, I cannot open it! Every single time, it crashes… and make me angry!
    I try to uninstall and install it again, it didn’t change anything… Can you help me?

    Please add the ability to switch between quarter, semester, and trimester systems. I and 150,000 University of California students on the quarter system will greatly appreciate this.

    I love this app so much it is soo usefueful!!
    Can you also add a viewing option of all assignments in a month view. I find that kind of view to be so helpful when seeing what assignments is coming up. You know like the month view on iCal. That would be fantastic Then this app would be perfect 🙂

    Oh and is it possible to add the ability to sync my iStudiez Pro calendar with my google calendar (it doesn’t have to have the ability to import from google calendar, just to export from istudiez)

    would iStudiez Pro for iPhone allow the class schedules to be synced into iCal in future updates? Cos its a one way sync from iCal to iStudiez Pro but not the other way around!

    • Ashiq, not in the nearest update. We know this would be a nice feature, but we are not ready for it yet.

    I wanted to make one suggestion.
    Sometimes lecturers change the location of the class for specific weeks and its a hassle to cancel the class and make a new single class. Could you add a function where we can change the info of a class for a specific day? I usually put it in notes but sometimes, when i’m in a rush and being absentminded, i miss the note!

    I’d like to second Ashiq’s recommendation, of a two-way sync of iCal.
    I can see it being rather involved. But it would be really useful, because iCal has it’s own sync capabilities with outside sources (gmail, etc). This would permit iStudiez Pro’s organization to be available anywhere at anytime on any computer or device (a library computer, etc).

    I was wondering.. Would it (someday) be possible to sync with google calendar in stead of ical..? Because i dont use ical.. I use a calendar app that syncs with google cal..

    • JKsmith, not so far, but working on it. Update has basic Lion compatibility.

    I’m surprised and quite disappointed. The update looks like it’s got some good features and fixes, but still the ‘shift schedule’ option on holidays doesn’t work for A and B weeks. I know about the ‘go for x days’ workaround, but I’d much rather have A and B weeks which work with ‘shift schedule’ on holidays – PLEASE!

    My syncing isn’t working. It says it’s not authorized 🙁

    • Valeria, it means that you did not log into your Cloud Sync account. And please note that server can be still on maintenance due to the changes related to the update.

    Is there a way to sync istudiez calendar events to google calendars?

    • Ashley, you can set up iStudiez Pro to show your Google events, but not vice versa so far.

    Just to add. I am un-able to sync my other calendars with the app. Only if i create an event in “work” does it show up and sync?

    I have a class that is 13 months long. It meets twice a week with random third days scattered throughout. This is a medical course so I also have clinical & internship days that I will need 44 occurances. Can you update the app to include more repeat class? Would love to use it for this nightmare class!!!

    • Jill, iStudiez Pro already has an option to set repeating classes… Or, maybe we misunderstood you…

  • Hi, just downloaded the app, looks great. Any idea when it will be possible to see inputs from iStudiez Pro Calendar into the Google Calendar ? (Google inputs in the iStudiez Pro Calendar is not a problem)

    • Marko, thanks, but there are some technical obstacles depending not only on us. We are working on it though.

    Can you add a copy/paste/duplicate option for the course/class/semesters please, it would make things a little more convenient. Fortunately you already have the classes as moveable objects so the implementation hopefully wouldn’t be too problematic.

    Also, would you be able to add the option for different times on different days on the classes? i.e. I have my grammar class on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10:40, 14:40, and 14:40 respectively. The multiple days option would be quite handy if not for my non-conformist Monday class.

    As some people have mentioned, I really would like you to explain how to enable delegate events to show up on the Mac app. I have tried to do it for a couple of hours, but it didn’t work… I am just wondering why I can show them up on iPhone but not on Mac…

    Please add “attach file” and “add URL” options for the “New Course”, “New Class”, “New Exam”, and “New Assignment” forms. This will be helpful for students since profs usually include syllabuses, lab manuals, exam info, and assignment info documents.

    i love istudiez pro on my mac and iphone, seriously keeping me sane, however my classes/timetable only show up on both versions for about a month and a half (from beginning of march to middle of april) even though i have entered them to continue until the end of june. help?

I have access to an iCal format of my schedule, therefore it would be quicker to import the date to the application and modified it after because our classes schedule doesn’t follow a regular pattern. Also, it would be a very handy and time saver feature for student as they would be allowed to share their istudiez pro calendar.

    Can you please add a repeating assignment option? Most of my assignments repeat on a weekly basis, and this would make things much easier if this was an option!

      Thank you for your suggestion.
      We have added it to our tracking system and the feature you have described may be implemented in future releases of the application.
