Critical update submitted for both versions

After the latest update we bumped into the bug when users reported creation of long-lasting semesters caused the app to freeze. Short-lasting semesters could be created with not problem at all.

Funny that we could in no way reproduce this on our devices. We got to the idea that it might be territory related bug when we paid attention to the names of the users who sent us their complaints: after short investigation it appeared that all of them are located in the countries of Latin America (Brazil, Peru, Chile). Some more investigations, and we found out it was related to the daylight savings specifics in the Latin America.

There were more bugs reported by you and we appreciate all your comments and valuable input. So, we fixed it and submitted critical updates for both iOS and Mac versions.

iPhone/iPod and iPad version:

  • Fixed occasional crash on start after recent update
  • Fixed crash while creating regular schedule
  • Fixed crash related to overnight performance of the app
  • Fixed occasional crash while syncing
  • Fixed occasional crash in Calendar

Mac version:

  • Fixed crash related to overnight performance of the app
  • Fixed crash while creating regular schedule
  • Fixed occasional crash while syncing
  • Fixed weekdays control view for Lion

NOTE: if you experience any of the problems described above, do not delete the app, just wait for the update.

    I installed this recent update on my iPod Touch 2G. When I ran it for the first time nothing would load and it would eventually crash. I kind of need this app for this summer semester grades as it ends this week and I put all my grades in it haha. Hopefully you guys can fix this soon.

    That’s great news! I hope the new release comes out in the App Store soon.

    However, there are two things that have been bothering me in the app (in 1.5.2, the release that is out for us) and since I don’t know whether you’ve already taken care of them or not I’ll post them up here.

    1. I think there might be a problem in the Notifications menu in the Settings part of the app. I’ve been wanting to have the app tell me I have an exam the next day, but I don’t want it to tell me that I have classes. So, I try to turn notifications ”off” for classes, but the ”when” page for the exam notifications goes blank. I’m not very knowledgeable in the field of programming but I take it this should be easy code for you to correct. :)

    2. I don’t know if this is actually doable within the app and I was just too dim to figure it out, but I’d like to make the exam grades be worth twice as much as other assignments (homework, papers etc) because that’s how it works at my school. So, for example, if in you got 80% in an exam and 60% in an assignment, your GPA would be calculated taking the 80 into account twice (80 + 80 + 60 divided by 3). I know this can be done by adding the exam grade twice, but I believe there should be easier workaround to this, and it could also help people with similar school systems.

    Then again, I don’t know if it is actually possible to do this using the ”weights” menu for assignments. I read something in the FAQ about you wanting to add the ”weights” function for exams as well and maybe that’s what I’m suggesting you do here. I dunno.

    I’m a homeschooling mom and have a couple questions about the functionality of the app. What I’m looking for is one app/calendar to keep track of ALL our assignments, field trips, dentist appointments, music lessons, swim classes and enrichment programs. So the app would need to sync with gcal or iCal, so that when I’m on my iPhone I can see evything that on our calendar for a certain day. I don’t what to just see the full calendar on my iPad. Hopefully this makes sense. Does your app do all that?

      Jackie, using iOS 4 (Mac OS 10.6 for Mac version) and later allows you to see all your events from the native device calendar in iStudiez Pro (though not vice versa so far).

    syncing does not work from ipad 2 (4.3.3) to iMac (2011) with osx 10.6 or 10.7!

    i tried everything on the guide, nothing works.

    who has gotten past this error and has gotten this to work between an ipad 2 and a iMac (2011) with lion or snow leopard??? (without sending an email of the data backup, that is not sync!)

    Is there anyway to print or email the assignments? I have the pro version. Also, any way to copy or extend assignments to more than one day. For example, I want to copy all my classes. They all have the same assignments each day with minor variations. Is there any way to copy them without having to input them again?

    I bought today the MAC, and IPHONE versions of the program and I want to congratulate to all. This is very good piece of software. But…
    A thing that lacks is the possibility of attach archives and documents on the schedules and tasks. I cant beleave a professional software like this do not have this basic feature option!

    Other important thing is create a text or notes to courses with dates. Like a real notebook. You have some forecast to add this new and fundamentals features?

    This changes can make your software the best.

    Since the last update, my ‘today’ classes are not showing – it says, all the time, “no more classes today” – I use it on an Iphone 3GS, at 4.3.5, last version of IStudiez and on an Ipad 2, same settings. Any idea?

    Are there any plans for developing a website “app” so users on the go, on different computers, and on Windows computers can have access to their synced data on the cloud? Soft of like the dropbox online account access…. This would be an amazing feature for many of us who already own iStudiez Pro!

Since I installed the app on my iPhone (yesterday), I haven’t been able to see anything in my “Today view” screen. it just says no more classes today, all day. Is there a way I can make it show my schedule for the day on there?

    I was just wondering if there was a way to add multiple professors for a course. I know different professors can be added for various exams, but I was curious about the entire class in general.

    Also, a full-screen version for the Mac would be so awesome – can’t wait for that!

      Emily, sure you can add multiple instructors to the Class: just tap any class and when editing it you will see the Instructors field. Tap it and you will see the list of all your instructors to choose from.

    Many of my classes are online. Exams open at a date/time and are open for 48 hours. It would be nice to allow for this in Exam set-up.

    please please please release an update with at least minimal iOS 5 support. I bought the mac app because I was unable to add semesters (meaning I couldn’t add courses or classes either) in the iPhone app. So I bought the mac app hoping that I could add the semesters, courses, and classes on the Mac and use cloud sync to get them on my iPhone but the iPhone app crashes when I try to do cloud sync!!! This is getting seriously aggravating.

    I don’t know why they don’t care about our issue but I got that bug too. All my timeframes were correct and my today classes would not show up all day. I backed up my data and reinstalled and was able to add an exam to my today screen. Also while malfunctioning my week view had two Wednesdays. This also happened to my boyfriend. Otherwise I adore the app!

    I have updated both the desktop and iPhone version of the app, and both are now closing. Prior semester information looks like it is missing — don’t know since when I click on it in the desktop version, nothing happens, and on the iPhone, I can’t even GET to the planner without it crashing. Classes start on Monday, so it would be nice if I could get my summer information restored and the fall ready to go!

    I +1 Billy. This app is great, especially with College starting next week, but I can’t get my schedule on my iPad 2 and my iMac is staying at home so its kind of pointless right now since with my iPad running IOS 5 Beta 6 can’t sync or create courses. I would like any kind of update to give me any way to add my courses to my iPad.

    mac version is very bugious and has a lot to improve.
    you can’t even copy classes or semesters, the view is not refreshed so sometimes it’s completely not updated, you can’t create a course that is on more than one semester and you can’t add instructors on the fly.

    Hi,

    Thanks so much for fixing the bug where the notes get erased when you modify the class details, that was really annoying me. The only problem I’m having now is the same one that Peter and Shantall have, none of my classes show up in the Today overview. My calendar events show up fine, but my classes don’t show up at all after the 25th of August. Before then, the classes show up, but the calendar events are listed first, then the classes, regardless of what time of day they are. This bug has only existed since the update.

    Other than that the app is great,

    I can’t even enter instructors any more. Deleted all the data started over and I go into the app with a clean DB try to add more than 1 instructor and the app crashes. Continues to crash over and over and over. I’m a student. What a waste of TIME and MONEY. I have the latest version. I have deleted the app, cleared the data and still problems. At this point I’m un-istalling the app, posting a review on iTunes for both the mac app and the iOS app of 1 star. This is not the time to be having problems. The first week of school.

    Hi!
    In the Mac app (in Lion), I’ve encountered the following problem:

    In several occassions, the application crashed. The main problem is not that the application crashes, but the fact that when it does, all the changes from the last time you opened the app are lost.

    If the application crashes, you may loose 5 seconds until you have it working again. But if changes are lost, you may have to spend minutes or even hours to input all the information once again.

    Finally, some labels are not translated to Spanish.

    Although the app concept is quite good, I have some suggestions as well:

    – I have a calendar in iCal, retrieved from Google calendars, which doesn’t appear in Preferences/Calendar, thus that events are not shown.
    – Also, it should be fine if classes and tasks could be shown in iCalc (select a Calendar where all iStudiez events can be shown).
    – When you write a start time for a class, the final time is automatically calculated +1 hour. It is fine, but in the university it is frequent to have 1.5 or 2 hours classes. It would be good if I could input somewhere the class duration, so that the final time is calculated. A good place could be “semester information”, where you define starting and ending dates for the semester.
    – I would suggest a better use of gestures and Lion features. For example, agenda page changes when moving two fingers left and right. Full screen support would be nice as well.
    – An option for printing the schedule would be fine.
    – And I think it would be a good feature to be able to attach some files to task or classes.

      Now, as for your suggestions:
