Beauty in Details: iStudiez Pro Spring Update

Hi again to everyone, spring is in blossom and we are inspired to bring you some nice features in the new update of iStudiez Pro iOS and OS X. So let’s see what’s in there to explore:

First of all, we’ve worked a lot to make Week pane more flexible and improve its usability. Now you have the ability to increase/decrease Week pane font size and ability to hide event types, option to set start/end time for a day and option to select all-day events and view details (OS X). Oh, and we have updated Week pane appearance on iPad. With this update you can zoom Week pane to see small events in detail, on all iOS and OS X devices.

Also, weekends are marked in grey color, and events display their start time (OS X only). The week number is shown when the week is selected on iOS devices.

There is a number of other small touches that we hope will make you happier:

OS X:

  • Option to add classes, exams and holidays from Overview
  • Option to edit custom class types
  • Copy&Paste option added in Planner for semesters, courses, classes, exams and in Day pane for assignments
  • Added assignments badge in toolbar
  • Preferences pane redesigned
  • Keyboard navigation improved

iOS:

  • Option to add holidays from Calendar on iPhone and from Day/Week pane on iPad

There are some fixes as well:

OS X:

  • Fixed backup saving and loading
  • Fixed issue causing application to show notifications for cancelled classes
  • Fixed various performance issues

iOS:

  • Fixed appearance in Week pane of event title and subtitle
  • Fixed issue with iPhone calendar in Thai localization
  • Fixed various performance problems

So far that’s it. We are now concentrating on some things and we are sure most of you will love it, but hush on this until late summer…
We keep you updated!

Let’s celebrate the update: iStudiez Pro Mac version is 50% OFF for one week!

  • Dorothy

this is a stupid question… I purchased istudiez pro for my iPad. I would like to sync it to my macbook pro, do I have to purchase another version?

    • https://istudentpro.com iStudiez Pro Team

iStudiez Pro goes universally for iPhone/iPod and iPad and is available through the App Store.
A version for Mac is a stand-alone application and goes separately from the Mac App Store.

Thus, you would have to buy iStudiez Pro from the Mac App Store if you want to use the app on your Mac.

  • Matthew

I am having a major problem with the cloud sync feature. I tried to sync my iPhone by using the account that was on my iPad and only 2 courses showed up..with nothing in it (I have 4 courses and a fall semester that are not there). I hope this update isn’t what is messing this up.

    • https://istudentpro.com iStudiez Pro Team

      Hi Matthew,

It seems that iStudiez Pro on one of your devices is out of sync.
We have received your email as well and sent you a respond.
      Did it help?

  • Matthew

The application is great and I use it everyday. However, I have a suggestion to a future update that would allow for attached documents to assignments. When I have an assignment, my teachers post PDF files with descriptions of how to complete the assignment. Being able to quickly see what I have to do would be a great addition to an already great application.

    • https://istudentpro.com iStudiez Pro Team

      Hi Matthew!

We already have this option in our plans for future. Thanks for your concern.

  • Abdulrahman BnSultan

please add sync from iStudiez to ical not just the other way around :(

    • https://istudentpro.com iStudiez Pro Team

      Hi!
Yes, we plan to develop this feature in future.

  • Fernando

Please add a section for reading, I use a work around, but i would love to see a reading section that look’s like this:

    Reading:

    Class: Sociology 100
    XYZ Chapter 1 pg’s 1-40

    Progress: Pg20 (xxxx—-)

    Due: 3 days left! June/05/2013

    • https://istudentpro.com iStudiez Pro Team

      Hi Fernando!

Thank you for the idea! It sounds pretty interesting.
We will think about your suggestion and may develop it in the future versions of iStudiez Pro.

  • Jonas

How about printing your weeks schedule on a piece of paper from the Mac application,

    • https://istudentpro.com iStudiez Pro Team

      Hi Jonas,

Yes, we have this feature in our plans 😉

  • Stephanie

I’ve used IStudiez for two years and love it. I recommend it to everyone! I’d like to see one thing added – and if I’ve missed it in the recent upgrade it would be great if you would point it out. –

A section for notes on each assignment – like under the calendar just a small text area for things like 4 pages, 3 references; must use ppt; find partner – things that a quick peek help answer.

  • https://istudentpro.com iStudiez Pro Team

    Hi Stephanie!

We have sent you an email with further details request. Please check.

  • Shamseen

I love this app, it’s helped me through school, internships, and an assistant manager job!

I would love to see something akin to Fernando’s suggestion, but for all sorts of long-term projects or tests that are far away, where I’d update how far I’ve finished or studied. Also, a regular reminder for these types of things would be great too!
Sometimes I power through like 5 assignments and I completely forget to read part of a chapter because it’s due in like a week, so it’s really far down in the assignments tab, and the reminder is set to happen the next day or something.

Another suggestion: maybe have a Daily section for assignments/to-do’s? It gets overwhelming to see all my assignments at once. It could look like the weekly section in the mac app (like a bound planner/book) but just a list. Maybe even have the options (like in the assignments tab) to show items by priority or course. Actually I think I just described the Reminder App that comes with the iPhone..

Sorry this is getting really long but I have a question as well: If you added weights, then added assignments, then adjusted the weights, would it mess up the calculation of your grade?

  • Shamseen

Sorry one more suggestion! A separate tab for Progress on said long term assignments/tests (though that might have been inferred..)

    • https://istudentpro.com iStudiez Pro Team

      Hi Shamseen!

We have received your comments in our blog. Thank you for your suggestions. We have added them to our tracking system and the features you have described may be implemented in future releases of the app.
As to the grade calculation – it is performed on the fly, thus if you modify the weights the calculation will use the new ones, so it would not mess up.
We are glad you participate in our app improvement, we really appreciate that.

  • Ahmed

Hi, I know a lot of people have said this but it doesn’t hurt to say it one more time. It would be nice to see iStudiez synced with iCal so that I can see my classes in iCal. This way it would be easier to see everything we have to do.

    • https://istudentpro.com iStudiez Pro Team

      Hello Ahmed,

Thank you for the suggestion. We do plan to develop an ability to show iStudiez Pro events in iCal in the future.
Currently we are not able to name an approximate date of the release.
Please follow us on Twitter and Facebook to stay updated.

  • Lisa

    Hi,
I love this app. I agree that adding notes would be very handy, and a reading section. I would also like to be able to list the books that I have for each class under the class section.

    • https://istudentpro.com iStudiez Pro Team

      Hi Lisa!

Thank you for your suggestions! We will think about them and try to develop those features in the future.

  • Ankit Jain

A request to the developers, can we have a checklist for topics, within a course. This would help us to keep a track on the topics we have completed in self study. For e.g., in the economics course: theory of demand, theory of supply.
So, as and when the topics are completed by the professor and/or self study, we can just strike it of the checklist.

    – request by a hardcore istudiez user, would make my life a lot easier!

    • https://istudentpro.com iStudiez Pro Team

      Hi Ankit!

Thank you for the suggestions! We will think about them.
Most probably the features you have described will be developed in the future.

  • Matt

Will iCal integration (CalDAV better!) be in the NEXT release?

Also, concur re: docs/pdf attachments (or links)

    • https://istudentpro.com iStudiez Pro Team

      Hi Matt!

      Thank you for the suggestions.
iCal integration may appear in the future releases of iStudiez Pro, but not in the next one.
We will think about docs/pdf attachments add as a feature for future releases.

  • Eric

Is it possible to add a feature to allow us to attach files to classes and assignments. Lets say our prof sends us a assignment we can attach it to the assignment we create or if we taken notes in a word document to attach it to the class for that day?

I am talking about the mac version. These files would already be on our computer and it would just be easier for us to link them to istudiez

    • https://istudentpro.com iStudiez Pro Team

      Hi Eric,

      Thank you for your suggestion.
We have added it to our tracking system and the feature you have described may be implemented in future releases of the app.

Please do not hesitate contacting us whenever you have any further ideas, suggestions or feature requests.
We will be happy to hear from you.

  • Andrew

iStudiez is a great app, I have it on iDevice and MBP and it’s my primary calendaring tool for school.

Pleeeeeaase add coloured dots to the iPad calendar view. Or a toggle to turn them on/off like on iPhone. The grey dots are pretty uninformative!

    • https://istudentpro.com iStudiez Pro Team

      Hi Andrew,
Thank you for the suggestion. We will implement it in the future updates of iStudiez Pro.
      Hope to be helpful.

  • Daniel

So, Question. It seems that I can add ical calendar events straight from istudiez on my iphone, but I cant seem to do the same thing on my mac version? How do I add events to my Ical calendar straight from istudiez pro?

    • https://istudentpro.com iStudiez Pro Team

      Hi Daniel!

Calendar events on Mac are added in the Calendar app. It is more convenient than to perform it through our application.

  • Victoria

I second Fernando’s comment. I’ve been using the app for a bit over a year, and am a history student. Reading isn’t graded, and I would love to see a section devoted to it.

    • https://istudentpro.com iStudiez Pro Team

      Hi Victoria!

Please clarify your request in a more detailed way.

You may contact us using support(at)istudentpro.com email address.

  • Filippo

Hi, iStudiez is a really fantastic application! When you upgrade to iOS 7? you may also make visible commitments in the calendar of iPhone? So you have everything under control from the notification center (to me, in fact, a summary of today is a very useful feature in iOS 7)! Sorry for my bad english! Thanks

    • https://istudentpro.com iStudiez Pro Team

      Hi Filippo!

We plan to release iOS 7 update of iStudiez Pro in November 2013.

  • Joakim

    Hi iStudiez Pro Team!

“We do plan to develop an ability to show iStudiez Pro events in iCal in the future.” July 24, 2013
“iCal integration may appear in the future releases of iStudiez Pro, but not in the next one.” August 28, 2013

Please!!! iCal integration for next semester in 2014… or I simply remove the app :(

  • Florence

Hi I have major problem with showing my classes. For example, for one of my classes, I set started on May 7, 2014 and ended on July 30, 2014. All the classes are longer after June… I have been trying to figure out WHY!

    • https://istudentpro.com iStudiez Pro Team

      Hi Florence!

Please double check the time frames for your semesters and classes.
Calendar and Today panes show your schedule within your semester/classes time frames only.

Note that the change of semester time frames does not affect your classes start/end dates.
Therefore, when changing semester dates do not forget to change your classes dates as well.

  • JLane

Is there a way to subscribe to a teacher’s Twitter feed? Some of my son’s teachers only use Twitter instead of iCal feeds. Thanks!

    • https://istudentpro.com iStudiez Pro Team

      Hello,

No, it is not possible to subscribe to Twitter accounts from iStudiez Pro.

  • Vaughn Houser

If I bought iStudiez Pro for my MacBook and want to sync to my iPhone, do I have to buy the app for my phone to do so?

    • https://istudentpro.com iStudiez Pro Team

      Hi Vaughn!

Yes,to use the app on your iOS device you would have to purchase the iOS version of iStudiez Pro.
