Fresh and Flashy – New iStudiez Pro on its Way

This is how we started to think of bringing to life new image of iStudiez Pro. And then we learned that iOS 7 is coming. It totally corresponds to our new vision of the app and our excitement has helped us work overnights during these last few months.

We are restraining ourselves from revealing everything to you so far, but at least we can share some main points.

iStudiez Pro is getting more elegant look for the upcoming iOS 7. Calendar in iPhone version is being tuned and polished, and totally redesigned Planner on iPad will be a nice addition to the update.

Thinking of all our users, we decided that iOS upcoming version will support BOTH iOS 7 and iOS 6, so no worries about that.

And, Mac version of iStudiez Pro is being tested for OS X 10.9 Mavericks BETA. To predict your questions: you will still have to wait for new look and new features of the app on your Mac. We will further update you on this.

This is all we can spill right now, guys. The update is on its way and we are excited about it.

    This is just a suggestion but why can’t you start doing a version for Windows as probably the majority of your customers use Windows instead of MAC, a lot of my friends have this app and they all own Windows but not a MAC, and another suggestion is can we have a 2week timetable as many schools are changing there timetables now to the 2 week version.

    Lovely! I hope this update will be amazing! But thought you wrote BOTH IOS 7 AND ANDROID. I am a little disappointed. To both iOS 6/7 is not a HUGE suprice! But as always, your app is the best. I will gladly pay for it when it comes to Windows and Android!

    Will the new version be able to add events to calendars in the iOS Calendar app?

    For example, when I look in the system-wide notifications tray, will I be able to the day’s classes in the same way that I can currently see calendar events?

    I love this program, I just had one request. Can we have sub-categories for grading? I have different term work that’s graded at a certain percentage, but each part has a different percentage. (And no, I can’t just add each section because they’re divided by 3, and they total up to 180%).

    I’m really excited for the update. I have bought iStudiez Pro for iPhone & Mac, however I could not start using it because the classes do not sync to iCal (just from iCal to iStudiez which is not helpful for me). Will a two-way sync be implemented in the next update? It’s really a must-have for me to finally be able to start using iStudiez Pro.

    I am having a hard time creating online exam ‘events’ in iStudiez Pro. Event as in starts one calendar day at a certain time and ends on another calendar day at another time (similar to an ‘all day’ event in iCal lasting a few days).
    Since most of my exams are online, it is very important to me to know when a test is ‘open’ and occurring in both week and day views (of course the exact open and close times are important as well).
    I mainly use the OSX desktop version, but have also purchased the iPad version in case there may be other options there. It is much easier for me to input data on the desktop.
    Am I missing something in the current versions, or if not, may it be addressed in upcoming versions?

    Nice :) can’t wait! I too would like to see better two week schedule input and also assignment sub-steps (e.g. multiple exercises within one assignment with a tick off system).

    Also i’m having trouble signing into your sync servers, is everything running ok?

    Hi, I have bought Pro version for my Mac and my iPhone. Great tool. However, the sync stopped working last night. Any ETA on the fix? Also, using iCloud will avoid downtime issues.

    I have a suggestion which would be very helpful for my own classes. If there was a way I could upload and associate a PDF copy of the syllabus for each class so it could be easily accessed later, that would be great. Sometimes I need to reference the syllabi for some reason and this would make things much easier (it would also make inputting everything substantially easier).

    It would be great to see some project management features. Projects are very popular now in schools and unis so it would be very helpfull. Features like milestones, tasks, meetings would be very appreciated.

    BTW are you considering web version? Properly written would solve problem with multi-platform support. While, at least now, native apps are much, much better option web version as addition would be nice.

    Hi,
    No problem, I’ll try to explain this as clearly as I can.
    In one of my classes, the class runs for the full year. The marking is divided up like this:
    Term work – 60%
    Written Exam – 20%
    Oral Exam – 20%.
    However, the term work is ACTUALLY 180%, because it’s marked by trimester. I’ll copy-paste the marking part of the rubric, but it is in French (French course). I’ll try to translate and explain, but the math is sorta there.
    Not gonna lie, it’s confusing. Basically, each trimester represents 50% of the “term work” for the course. Each trimester totals up to 180%, but it only totals up to 60%. And, as you can see, there are different sections under “Term Work” that are based differently.

    Répartition des notes (50% par trimestre)
    Au premier trimestre, les points seront répartis comme suit:
    i. Production du trimestre* :
    Travaux écrits (inc. SS Ssssions) 50 %
    Travaux oraux 40 %
    Participation 5 %
    Tests écrits/dictées 25 %
    Journal culturel 30 %
    Journal d’apprentissage 30 %
    Total 180% /3 = 60%

    Examen oral 20 %
    Iii Examen écrit 20 %

    Another thing is that one of my professors gives us 3 tests, but he only marks the 2 best. If there’s some sort of way to add this into the program, that’d be sweet.

    Hi – we have this but I’m wondering how to create a 4-5 week special exam (internal exams) revision timetable – half the weeks will be in school time so lessons still on and half the time in school holidays – can it do that without messing everything up after the exams, as it’s then school as normal?

    Hello,

    I have recently purchased istudiezpro, but I really feel there’s a lot of need to improve. It is a nice application, but they are core things to consider. (Uservoice or similar voting system could be interesting.)

    1) Google Drive and/or Drop box sync;
    We are on the move, we share files with others… inexistent? common…;)

    2) File attachments (even if they exist on google drive or dropbox)
    Obviously each homework may end up on a deliverable, we should
    be able to attach files, at least there.

    3) Each week, for a given class, during a certain semester, we DO have repeated tasks as homework sometimes. We can create a repeated event, but it will not consider the semester calendar days and holidays, and it is “hackish”. We should be able to create repeatable homework assigments.

    All this 3 features, or even 2 if you consider 1 and 2 together, are things that we would use extensivly, and, while simple, they feel like a huge user experience hole.

    Since I just bought this app, while happy with the overall features, I feel a little frustrated for not seeing neither of those things being present.

    Seems like iOS 7 has broken my schedule. All of my classes have had their times messed up completely, forced into the early morning. A lot are so early that they don’t display, there’s just a weird zigzag edge of the box at the top of the calendar. Incredibly frustrating, it’s completely unusable as a timetable. I’d rather not go through and change every time individually. Any help?

    Is it possible to do like “Sub Grading”…? For example i have a class that is both a lecture and a lab..The Final grade is 75% lecture and 25% lab work…BUT the Lab is broken down 70% lab work, 20% Quizes, 10% hw….So i guess is it possible to add grades for the lab and lecture separately and have them give me an overall grade at the same time?

    Glad to hear about the update, the buttery smell of a freshly baked iStudiez, mmmmm ‘s gonna be goood!

    As everyone’s shooting theirs, I’ll add a feature suggestion of my own – a kind of syllabus tracker. Learning a topic most often isn’t an assignment but a continuous everyday process of meeting the said topic in person, getting to know each other and steadily developing a deeper understanding of its emotions. Now, keeping track of it isn’t that difficult sometimes – but not if you have 9 courses in the semester fighting for your attention.

    So a possibility to make a topic plan, maybe in a hierarchic form, like [(1) Skeletal system: (a) upper limbs: • palms, • forearms, etc. (b) lower limbs: • feet, •thighs] with a progress bar(!) and/or a checklist in there, would make keeping track of your progress easier by astronomical units and the overall college experience more coherent by aeons.

    I have the same frustrating thing like Kieran mentioned before.

    After I went to iOS 7 my schedule switched to morning and broke dates.

    I hope you fix it ASAP, but one more thing – do i need to edit the schedule or just leave it as is? (I may send you my schedule file if you want)

    Hi again! I tottaly adore iStudiez. I just had the idea (maybe it’s not only me) that you could connecct the calendars. I know that now in the iStudiez we can see events from the ios calendars. But in my opinion it would be amazing and fantastic if we could see in ios calendars events and classes from iStudiez. I’m aware of the fact that some poeple won’t enjoy this, but it could be turned off or on. I’m sure that many people will love it! It would really means a lot to me if you could take this into consideration.

    At my university and many other’s we use moodle or black board to receive our assignments. i am wondering if you guys could write some sort of plug in that would allow you to log into moodle or black board from i studiez and then download the assignments automatically. I know for me it would make my life worlds easier. also a PC version would be much appreciated.

    Hello! This is by far one of the most important and best made apps on ios! When I came back to ios recently, it was one of the first apps I downloaded!

    Since this is probably one of the best developer blogs I’ve seen (you guys actually respond to feature requests and even implement some) I would like to suggest a few things

    GRADES: while grading is available, it seems to only allow grading when the assignment is complete. Unfortunately, I rarely get a grade on assignments when they are completed. To fix this, is there anyway you can add a grade later option? This could put ungraded items into a seperate section to be graded later.

    Currently if you want to add a grade later you have to either not check the item as done, or you have to go back find the ungraded item, uncheck the item then re-check it which changes it’s completion date.

    EXAM PERIOD: many exams are not actually on specific days anymore (especially in hybrid and online classes) can you add an exam period? For instance, the exam is available on this day and ends this day. This option would also be nice for regular assignments too.

    ATTACHMENTS: as some have said before, attachments would be nice as well! This would allow for attaching a syllabus, assignment instructions to assignments ect.

    There are other things that others have mentioned which I also strongly request such as syncing classes to iCal and a windows version!

    GRADE SCALE: didn’t see this but some teachers use a weird grading scale like the 7 point system. Can this be incorporated?

    SHARE: it would be awesome if students who share the same class could just send the class info to each other! This would include the class times, schedule, grade scale, teachers, assignments exams ect. Sharing would NOT include grades, completed assignments or attachments.

    ITEACHER SHARE: I would love it as a student if teachers could use Iteacher to send the entire schedule, syllabus and assignment due dates/instructions! I don’t know many teachers that use this app, but if made cross platform (windows PC, android) then more might. Also when this happens the teachers could grade us and our grade would show up on the app and we don’t need to do much! I know this request will probably not happen but it would be nice if it did someday :-)

    Ahhhhh so excited :)!

    One thing. I have been using Wunderlist for To Dos.
    And I am not asking for it, but it would be amazing if I could add: notes, subtasks, and reminders to an assignment.

    Currently I’m using both wunderlist and istudiez. I love istudiez, but it is short on detailed tasks.

    I hope one day I could JUST used iStudiez instead of, iCal + iStudiez + Wunderlist.

    For example, let’s say I have a module called “CMF006” that is about “Inorganic Chemistry”, could there be a way maybe to add both those details without cramming them in the class name box… If that makes sense

    So excited for the new version! Are you guys going to implement a subsection of assignments for reading? That would be super helpful.
    Something where each reading assignment can be added to certain days and each one can be checked off individually would be great. I’m a history student so I have about 20 different reading assignments per week up to 600 pages.

    I love the app. It’s absolutely beautiful and so useful. Thank you for making it.

    I absolutely love this app and have recommended it to so many of my fellow college students. One thing I and many of my fellow students would like to see, as students studying the field of physics, is a recurring assignment option.     I am experiencing a problem with my calendar. All my classes this semester are from Aug 26th to Dec 5th, and I’m sure I input them the right way. But on the calendar the classes are only shown from Aug26th to Oct 7th, and rest of the days from Oct 8th to Dec 5th are just blank. Please help me fix this asap, because I really rely on your product very much. PS, I’m using Mac version and iPhone version.

      Please double check the time frames for your semesters and classes.
      Calendar and Today panes show your schedule within your semester/classes time frames only.

      Note that the change of semester time frames does not affect your classes start/end dates.
      Therefore, when changing semester dates do not forget to change your classes dates as well.

    Please, please, please do not get rid of the functionality of the calendar view like in the default iOS7 Calender app. Apple went from showing both the month view and an area below with the tasks for a selected day, to only showing the month all for “looks.” Still excited for iOS7 iStudiez, but a little worried…

    Hey guys,

    I love using iStudiez in university, but since a few weeks I have some problems. First: if I choose maybe 5 teachers for example in anatomy, and I restart the app, not every teacher is chosen for this class (maybe only one is left).
    And second: I guess since IOS 7 the name of some classes are not shown in the weekplaner. It has the right color and the right time, but the name isn’t shown.
    I have one tip for the new update: kind of new function, which I really miss: I have some classes (again anatomy for example), which start at 8.00am on Monday, but the same class starts on Tuesday on 10.00am. Now I have to add two classes, although it’s the same kind. Could it be possible to choose a different time on different days, without adding a new class?

    I hope you understand, what I mean – I’m writing from Germany

    Thanks for trying to fix this problems. Beside of this I really love your app, it’s so useful

    As a hardcore user of Istudiez, I’d like to suggest a feature to the forthcoming update: Couldn’t it be possible to export all of Istudiez’s content to text format? I mean, sometimes it is necessary that you have your whole semester printed, but all the content seems to be locked within the app (for example, I use to provide some feedback for teachers, and I often have to go some meeting and have my semester printed. Having it as a printed spreadsheet of sorts would make things a lot easier).

    Constantly getting caught out with God awful library fines for overdue books!

    A library book return date option that could be added would be cool.
    Most of mine are usually specific to my subject so it could be another “+” for say “Add library book” then a reminder that you can set say a day before and maybe even a “Final warning 1 hour until book is overdue” Etc

    During our exam period super fines are implemented that a €2.50 per hour late, due to the high demand for books. it gruelling.

      Did you try to use Reminders app? It is available in iOS by default.

      If you want to perform the scenario you have described in iStudiez Pro – you may set a notification as an assignment.
      Set in iStudiez Pro Settings notifications for assignments and you will be informed beforehand.

    Do you think you could allow us to organize assignments by their grading weights? For example, if “Essays” take up 40% of my grade in one class, it would be nice if I could click on the “Essays” weight and see all the assignments that count towards that weight. I’d see all the essays I’ve already completed and the grades I got on them, and also any future essays. There could also be a tally of how many total assignments count towards that weight currently, and how many I’ve completed along with my current grade for that weight (“5 out 7 assignments completed. Current grade for this weight: 82.5%”). That would be very useful and would really help me see which parts of my grade I need to improve.

    For example, in my university an A+ is 76.67-100% and the calculation point is 78.33.
    So this means if you have done an exam worth 40% of your overall grade you have achieved 31.332% of your subject. So say that’s a midterm, you have 31.332% going into your final exam

    I’ve been using iStudiez Pro for around 3 years now since I went back to college. I am very pleased with it, and always have been. Very exciting to hear about the iOS 7 update.

    However, I was wondering if it was possible to give us the option to modify the grading system? Right now, with the limited number of options I can’t correctly get a grade from my course with the grading system we use in our country.

    The system is as follows:

    We are evaluated on 100% point system for all of our courses (It varies depending on the course, could be 2 exams for 30% each and then 4 assignments at 10% each in one course, or 2 exams at 5% each and then 3 assignments at 30% each on another course, both for a total of 100%), however, to get our final grade, which is based on a 01-20 point scale system, we do a simple “Rule of Three” to get the real grade at the end of the semester.

    100% ——- 20 Points
    Final Grade % ——- Final Grade “?” (20 pts scale)

    So for example, Student A accumulates 78% during the semester (graded on a 100% system, with each assignments having a piece of that 100% total), the final grade then would be:

    If 100% equals 20 pts
    then 78% of Student A equals = 15.6 Pts (Final grade)

    Any way to implement something like this? It is the only thing to make this app perfect.

    Entering Week 6 of iStudiez Pro iOS 7 Update Watch. Morale is low. The men have all started wearing their shoes as hats. It’s weird. Also, we’re officially out of rations, and everyone has resorted to eating dirt and tree bark. It’s amazing our iPhone batteries have even lasted this long, come to think of it.

    Back on topic, an idea you’ll hopefully consider is the ability to add exams as assignments with variable due dates, considering how many exams are online nowadays.

      Please clarify – do you create a Calendar Event from iStudiez Pro or iStudiez Pro event, e.g. Class?

      At the moment iStudiez Pro is able to show iCal events.
      We plan to develop the option for iStudiez Pro events to be shown in iCal.

      We were trying to make this option ready for this update, that is going to be released soon, but we still lack the time.
      So it was decided not to make users wait and release iOS 7 UI version of iStudiez Pro without iCal integration feature now.

      This feature will be implemented in the update after this one.

I mean the notifications should appear not for example 15 minutes before the lesson, but exactly at the moment the previous one ends.     I’m really excited for the new update just like everyone else, I’m sure. Just one question though. So, for the grading options. We are only allowed to choose one type of grading. Either point based or percentage based…I was wondering if you guys will be able to add an option where we’ll be able to choose what grading system to use for each class?       When you create a New Calendar Event from iStudiez Pro it is created in the Calendar app, not in iStudiez Pro. 

      iStudiez Pro can sync the data that contains the app itself, e.g. semesters, courses, assignments, exams, etc. 
      This data is synced via our own Cloud Sync Server.

      Calendar events are synced via iTunes, service that cannot be used by iStudiez Pro. 
      Please sync your iCal via iTunes for calendar events you have set to be shown correctly in iStudiez Pro on your devices.

    Hey iStudiez Team…WOW beautiful update! Exactly what I was hoping for. I have a few suggestions for your next minor update:
    • I noticed when editing my list of professors that it seems to be a little glitchy; sometimes one professor will show up multiple times in the list in the place of other professors that were there before, and sometimes a professor named “namely” shows up in the list when I never created this professor.
    • Secondly, could you consider adding the ability to set the time of day that an assignment is due instead of just the date? In University most of my assignments are due at a specific time (say 7 pm for math for example) and my labs are also due during the day. This feature would be extra helpful for me as well as for most other post-secondary students. Thanks!

    My OSX Mavericks 10.9 is showing a problem with the calendar section of istudiez pro. It says the day is Monday but on the calendar it shows tuesday like skipped a day. This only happened after this update. And i also would prefer to see the exam to show red numbers on the calendar on the mac as it already is on the mobile devices. I would like if you would implement the iOS7 graphic look on the macbook. So far i have used this program on all of my iDevices and i enjoy every aspect of it. Keep up the good work and updates!     Help!! On my macbook running osx Mavericks and my iDevices all running ios7, I added emoji to the Holiday section in istudiez on my macbook and i go to look on my iDevices it only shows a box with a squiggly in the middle. Hope y’all consider this for review.

    Everything is so good, very clear and interactive. My only suggestion for you is to launch it for windows (support), im sure you that it will increase in a several way the number of people buying this amazing app. Do you have a date or some aproximation for windows?

    Is there a phone number for me to get help with this program? For some reason, a few days ago both the computer program and the iPhone app logged themselves out and won’t log in again. Both the program and the app work perfectly fine, but they won’t sync. Also, yesterday afternoon the “Sign In” button on the computer program in the top right corner randomly disappeared. Any ideas of what to do?

    Is there a way to get istudiez pro to send you notifications the day before the assignment is due, and not the day it is due? Is it possible to get istudiez to hide the completed assignments? Is it possible to get istudiez pro to show the assignments the day before it is due? Eg. If the due date is the 19th I want it to say due date 19th and show the assignment on the 18th.

      You can change assignment default notification in the settings of the app.
      Go to iStudiez Pro Settings > Notifications > Assignment Default Notification

      iStudiez Pro has 2 sections for assignments – Current and Completed. Can it be helpful?

      It is not possible to show the assignment before the due date.

    I really like istudiez pro. The only problem is that not completed assignments don’t follow you to the next day, or until you complete it. Eg. sometimes I forget to do assignments the date it is due and when I go into istudiez the next day the unfinished assignment is on yesterday’s assignments list. Because of this I’m much more likely to forget about the whole assignment. I hope you can do something with this in the next upgrade.
